Making Arabic searching easier
CHELMSFORD - August 15, 1997 - Engineering Graphical Solutions (EGS) announced the addition of the fahras interface to Ayna.com. This new addition works in conjunction with the search engine Nathra allowing all users with or without Arabic-input-enabled browsers to search for Arabic resources.
The fahras, was designed to provide an alternate way for locating resources. The fahras concept (Arabic for index) is an old concept used in almost every book. By extending this concept to access Ayna`s databases, we are providing users a natural interface to the data. The fahras starting points at Ayna are http://www.ayna.com/fahras/index.html (ISO-8869-6 Version) and http://www.ayna.com/fahras/index.cp.html (CP-1256 Version).
Ayna's world wide web site www.ayna.com, features our next generation Arabic search engine Nathra, allowing users using virtually any operating system -- DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX, to access the site and search for Internet resources. The site displays the information in Arabic Windows native codepage (CP-1256), and International Standards Organization Arabic codepage (ISO-8859-6). The site can be explored using readily available, both free and commercial, web browsers such as Tango (Alis technologies), AraMosaic (LangBox International), Sinbad (Sakhr), Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Netscape Communicator (Netscape), and Accent multilingual mosaic (Accent).
