Ayna.com Network ranked Middle East's premier website
The Ayna network, headed by Ayna.com became the first Arabic site on the World Wide Web to be ranked among the Top 1000 most popular websites in the world by Alexa Research (www.alexa.com), a web traffic rating company owned by Amazon.com.

This ranking by a respected and independent source for rating internet traffic makes the Ayna network the first Arabic website to achieve such an esteemed position garnering the No. 882 spot among 3,500,000 other sites on the web, far superseding any other Arabic portal/search engine sites, and ranking not too far from popular international sites such as americanexpress.com (at 719) and china.com (at 777).
"Other Arab competitive sites, ranked by Alexa close to the 3,000 spot and higher, have recently claimed the top spot for the Middle East relying only on a comparison with Ayna.com, the internet directory.
In doing so, they ignored the traffic generated from all the various components of the Ayna network consisting of the Ayna.com internet directory and search engine, the Ayna.com multilingual mail gateway, the Ayna Arabic discussion forums, the Ayna classified, the Ayna Arabic greeting cards, the Ayna personal home pages, and the Ayna chat. In determining the Top 1000 classification, Alexa aggregates all traffic in each network.
This has led to Ayna's ranking at 882 reflecting the aggregate traffic from all its sites. Our position is confirmed through an independent and verifiable source," said Adonis El Fakih, chairman and CEO, Ayna.
"Our success is remarkable considering Ayna's early stage development" said El Fakih. The Ayna network is the first Arabic website to achieve such recognition. No other Arabic or Arab-based web site has even come close to this ranking.
"This remarkable achievement follows a rapid growth of traffic from the Ayna.com community in the Middle East, due in part to Ayna's mission of providing a safe, easy and convenient Internet experience for Arabic speaking users around the world," he said.
Ayna's network community and comprehensive Internet resources, particularly its easy-to-use search engine and directory and its multilingual e-mail, brought tremendous traffic and overwhelming activity to the network.
While two other English sites based in the Middle East (emirates.net.ae ranked at 903 and aramco.com.sa ranked at 914) were also ranked among the top 1000, more Arabic sites have yet to contribute towards a flourishing information industry in the Arab World.
Alexa's top three sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for May 2000 were yahoo.com (1), msn.com (2) and ayna.com (3).
The Ayna's network sites are distinguished from other sites in that their services are purely in Arabic and easy to use and consequently the greater number of its visitors are from Arab countries. Ayna.com also provides indexing and search options for sites in Arabic enabling individuals and organisations to find these resources quickly and easily.
"Ayna strives to deliver the simplest to use and most comprehensive source of information on the Net in Arabic," said El Fakih.
When asked about Ayna's future, El Fakih said that the Ayna network is going through a major upgrade of its systems to provide even greater reliability and performance.
