Adapting Current Information Technology Trends to Arabic

CHELMSFORD - July 20, 1997 - Engineering Graphical Solutions (EGS) announced the introduction of the next generation of search engines used at Ayna. The new search engine named Nathra uses advanced indexing techniques in conjunction to the Arabic lexical rules found in the previous versions of our search engine.

Nathra, was designed to provide the best performance, and has been highly customized for integration with Ayna's databases. Our customers, visitors, and the Arabic community deserve a powerful search engine which is technologically in par to the Latin search engines currently available on the WWW. Nathra goes beyond the technology issues by addressing the Arabic lexical rules integration, improving performance, and applying modular design techniques.

Nathra is a combination of programs, to index, sort, analyze, and search WWW data. Nathra, is capable of indexing Arabic documents in ISO-8859-6, and CP-1256, as well as any other codepages. This capability makes the search possible in Arabic or any other foreign language. Since most of the information on the WWW is available in non-Arabic languages, we will continue to incite the publication of new Arabic sites by promoting these sites in a variety of ways, and providing technical support.

Ayna's world wide web site www.ayna.com, features the next generation of the Arabic language search engine, which allows users using virtually any operating system -- DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX, to access the site and search for Internet resources. The site displays the information in Arabic Windows native codepage (CP-1256), and International Standards Organization Arabic codepage (ISO-8859-6). The site can be explored using readily available, both free and commercial, web browsers such as Tango (Alis technologies), AraMosaic (LangBox International), Sinbad (Sakhr), Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Netscape Communicator (Netscape), and Accent multilingual mosaic (Accent).

Ayna's innovations extend to the user-interface arena, by providing a keyboard mapper to translate Latin characters to Arabic characters, allowing users without Arabic-input-enabled browsers to fully exploit the resources available to search using their existing configurations.
